How I Think

Marketing is not a collection of channels. It is how a company allocates money, time and attention.

I did not arrive at this view from a single book. My own projects, leading technical people, client campaigns and situations where everything looked active but the whole made no business sense brought me here.

Every marketing yes means several noes

The budget is limited. People’s capacity even more so. When a company adds a new channel, tool or format, it does not only take money. It takes attention, administration, data and further decisions.

That is why I do not only ask whether something can work. I ask whether it is the best use of company capacity right now and what will be left aside because of it.

We cannot eliminate uncertainty. But we can manage it.

In marketing, we almost never have all the data. Waiting for complete certainty means not deciding. Charging ahead without boundaries means guessing expensively.

A sensible approach is to name the assumption, choose the size of the risk, define a success signal and say in advance when we will stop the experiment. That is not less bold. It is more responsible.

A tool is not a strategy. Not even if AI is in its name.

SEO, PPC, automation and generative AI can all be excellent. They can also accelerate the chaos already present in a company.

That is why, for AI visibility, I do not start by asking how to write text for an algorithm. I start by asking which topic the company has experience in, a clear viewpoint on, and a reason to be a trusted source for. Without that, optimisation is only a new wrapper for an old problem.

A metric becomes useful only when it makes us do something differently

Higher traffic can be good news. But if it comes to topics with no commercial connection, it may only inflate the report and content costs.

Likewise, a cheaper click need not be a success if it brings worse enquiries. I always assess a number according to the decision it is meant to serve.

A good strategy remains legible even when the plan changes

A company should know why it is doing something, which assumption it is testing and what would make it change direction. Then change is not chaos. It is the result of new information.

If you need to translate this framework into a specific company situation, that is where my work and ways of collaborating begin.
