In brief: Black hat SEO refers to techniques that attempt to manipulate search-engine rankings instead of creating a useful and honestly accessible page.
How I use Black hat SEO in practice
In an audit, I look for hidden or automatically generated content, doorway pages, unnatural links, cloaking, and compromised parts of the website. I do not assess them only by immediate traffic. I count removal costs, the risk of manual action, loss of trust, and dependency on the supplier. The safe path is to remove the cause and build value that can be publicly defended.
What to watch for
The boundary is not "it works" versus "it does not work." Manipulation can work for a while and still be a bad business decision. A supplier that conceals its method transfers risk to the client's domain.
Questions for decisions
- Can we openly describe the practice to management and search engines?
- Does genuine value arise for the visitor?
- Who will bear the consequences after an algorithm change?
- Can we safely remove the tactic?
