Marketing term in context

Brand image

In brief: Brand image is the actual picture of a brand in people’s minds. A company can influence it through identity and experience, but cannot simply declare it itself.

How I use brand image in practice

I connect brand image with a specific customer situation. The message, timing and next step should change according to what a person has done and what they can reasonably expect from the company. I compare the intended identity with evidence from customer conversations, sales, search behaviour and real experience.

What to watch for

A brand is not made by a claim alone. A polished campaign can promise a position that the offer, service or follow-up does not support. Do not use an attractive framework as a substitute for evidence; record the starting state and test whether a change affects customer understanding and choice.

Questions for decisions

  • What does the customer actually associate with the brand?
  • Which experience supports or weakens that association?
  • What evidence distinguishes a fact from an assumption?
  • Who owns the next change and its evaluation?
