In brief: Web pages are documents and interfaces available through web addresses. Together they form a website with its own structure, content, functions and technical operation.
How I use web pages in practice
With a web page I start from the visitor’s task, not the designer’s idea. I walk through it on a small mobile, with a keyboard and on a slow connection, then watch where people hesitate or make errors. Every change needs a reason, a measurable signal and the smallest possible intervention so its impact can be recognised.
What to watch for
The most common mistake is changing several things at once without a baseline. Then it is impossible to know whether the web page really helped. A metric without observation also cannot explain why people hesitate or leave.
Questions for a decision
- What task does the person want to complete on the page?
- Where might they hesitate, make an error or lose context?
- Does it work on mobile, by keyboard and on a slow network?
- What signal will show that the change really helped?
