In one campaign published in 2019, I achieved a price of 0.09 CZK for a thirty-second view. That is a historical result from a specific campaign, not today’s price list or a promise. Auctions, formats, view definitions and audiences have changed. The figure is valuable only as a reminder that cheap attention can be available. Its business value is decided by what people do next.
Start with the objective, not the format
First choose one job for the video to do:
- increase awareness of a problem or brand,
- explain a complex offering,
- bring relevant visitors to the website,
- generate an enquiry or sale,
- bring people who already know the brand back into the decision.
Meta explains that its auction system looks for people more likely to take the action corresponding to the chosen campaign objective. When you optimise for views, you primarily get views. Do not automatically expect enquiries. On YouTube, available formats and settings depend on the campaign objective and subtype; the current overview is maintained in the Google Ads documentation.
One video, one main idea
A good advertising video does not have to look like a television commercial. It must quickly make clear who it is for, which situation it solves and why someone should continue. I usually build it in this order:
- First signal: an image or sentence in which the right person recognises themselves.
- Tension: a specific problem, loss or opportunity.
- Proof: a work sample, process, case, number with context or answer to an objection.
- Next step: one clear call to action appropriate to the decision stage.
A logo in the first two seconds is not a strategy, and aggressive editing cannot replace the point. Meta warns that videos in some placements start without sound, so the story must work visually and with captions; its recommendations for awareness and video views also stress the opening seconds and a clear story.
Build a system of variants, not one expensive original
From one shoot, prepare multiple hooks, lengths, captions, aspect ratios and closing calls to action. The vertical version should truly be composed for mobile, not just be a cropped horizontal image with someone’s head cut off. Keep a clean master track, separate captions and editable source files.
Test one main change at a time. For example:
- the same offer, a different opening,
- the same opening, different proof,
- the same creative, a different audience,
- the same audience, a different landing page.
When you change everything at once, the result may be better, but you do not know why.
Meta and YouTube are not two sizes of the same billboard
On Meta, a video often meets someone in the middle of other content. It must win attention and be understandable without prior context. Consider different placements including feed, Stories and Reels; Meta has a separate current overview of video formats.
On YouTube, you can capture intent, a topic and a broader audience depending on the campaign type. Some formats can be skipped, others are short or appear in the feed. Do not therefore put the same video into every format without adjusting its opening, length and call to action. Check current steps and restrictions in the Google Ads guide to video campaigns, because names and available options change.
Measure in layers
Each layer answers a different question:
- Delivery: how many suitable people saw the ad, and at what frequency?
- Attention: where do people drop off, and how much of the video do they actually watch?
- Interest: do relevant visitors arrive, search for the brand or respond?
- Action: do enquiries, purchases or other quality conversions occur?
- Economics: what are customer value, margin and payback period?
Tag clicks with consistent UTM parameters and manage website measurement through a verified implementation, such as the process for Google Tag Manager. Platform reports and analytics may differ because of attribution windows, identity and consent. Understand the difference first; do not force the figures to match to the decimal place.
Budget and testing
There is no universal minimum amount for every company. The budget must provide enough observations for a decision, but the test must not threaten the economics. Before launch, write down:
- which signal means continue, adjust or stop,
- how many variants you can honestly evaluate,
- how long the normal decision cycle is,
- who will check comments, leads and subsequent sales.
Do not turn off an ad after a few hours just because the first number looks expensive. At the same time, do not let an ineffective creative run for weeks with the explanation that the algorithm is still learning.
When not to make video advertising yet
- the offer or landing page is not clear,
- you have no way to process an enquiry quickly,
- the next step cannot be measured sensibly,
- the budget covers production but not distribution and iteration,
- you use video only because your competitors currently use it.
Fix the offer and measurement first, then invest in variants. If you need to connect video with an advertising account, analytics and a sales process, continue with my overview of Facebook advertising or a direct consultation.
