Blocked Meta advertising account: a safe recovery process

The advertising stopped, a restriction is shown in the account, and the first instinct is to create everything again. That is exactly how an unpleasant situation can become a bigger problem. When assessing restrictions, Meta also watches for attempts to bypass its controls and for the use of inauthentic accounts.

The original 2022 article distinguished a blocked advertising account, business environment, and personal access. That is still the right starting point. I remove the old advice to create replacement personal profiles or change a payment card or domain. That is not recovery; it is bypassing enforcement.

First determine what is actually restricted

The sentence “Facebook blocked me” can hide several different states:

  • a single rejected ad or catalog product;
  • a restricted advertising account;
  • a restricted Page or business account;
  • a specific person’s restricted ability to advertise;
  • a suspended personal profile;
  • a compromised account with unauthorized changes or spending.

Each state has a different path. Record the exact notice, the affected asset ID, time, last change, and destination URL. Take a screenshot. Not to argue with a robot, but to provide unambiguous facts during review.

The status of a personal profile and managed Pages can be checked through Account Status. For advertising and business restrictions, the official process runs through Business Support Home; Meta describes it in its ad review and account restriction rules.

When activity looks suspicious, handle security first

Foreign campaigns, an unknown administrator, a changed card, or a login from an unknown device are not ordinary ad rejections. They are a security incident. Stop further damage and record what happened.

  1. Change the personal account password and do not reuse it elsewhere.
  2. Log out unknown sessions and review permissions for people, partners, and apps.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication and login alerts.
  4. Check devices and browsers for malicious extensions or malware.
  5. Review payment transactions and handle unauthorized spending with the bank too.
  6. Use the official compromised-account report, not a link from a random email.

Meta recommends the same foundation — checking devices, passwords, sessions, and two-factor authentication — in its security guide for personal and business accounts. Until the cause of the compromise is removed, an attacker may take over restored access again.

Review the ad and everything behind the click

A restriction need not be caused only by banner text. Review may cover the creative, offer, landing page, catalog, payment behavior, and account history. Compare the notice with the current Meta Advertising Standards and inspect the entire chain.

  • Does the ad match what people find on the landing page?
  • Does the page work on mobile and is it uncompromised?
  • Does the ad or website contain unsupported results, deceptive elements, or a prohibited offer?
  • Is a special ad category selected where Meta requires it?
  • Does the catalog contain items prohibited in ads or subject to special conditions?
  • Did someone change payment details, an administrator, or a large number of campaigns before the restriction?

For creative, use the current framework in the article about Facebook and Instagram ads. For measurement and data, also check whether a compromised or incorrectly connected integration is the problem.

An appeal should be brief, factual, and verifiable

If you believe the decision is wrong, request a review through the official interface. Meta identifies Business Support Home as the place to review a restricted advertising, user, Page, or business account.

Include:

  • the ID and type of affected asset;
  • the exact notice and time of restriction;
  • a brief description of the company’s legitimate activity;
  • what you checked or corrected;
  • why you believe the restriction was made in error;
  • requested business or identity documents, only through the official interface.

Do not send five different stories through several channels. Do not use threats or invent explanations you cannot support. Review timing and outcome are not guaranteed; follow the current status in the account and notices.

A new fake profile is not a solution

Meta explicitly lists evading review and using inauthentic accounts to operate business assets and ads among the reasons for restrictions. Therefore I do not recommend:

  • creating a personal profile with a fabricated or borrowed identity;
  • moving the same ad to new accounts merely to bypass a restriction;
  • changing a card, domain, or company so the system cannot recognize the previous account;
  • buying accounts or access from third parties;
  • trusting people who promise an internal contact and guaranteed unblocking for a fee.

If Meta recommends or permits legitimately creating a new advertising account within the real business ownership, follow that instruction precisely. Without such a basis, do not try to outsmart the system.

Prevention is mainly ownership management

A company should not depend on one former employee or agency profile. Keep an overview of assets, owners, and permissions:

  • business portfolio, Page, advertising account, dataset, catalog, and domain;
  • at least two legitimate administrators for critical assets;
  • mandatory two-factor authentication and regular session reviews;
  • agency partner access instead of shared passwords;
  • current billing and business details;
  • removal of people and integrations the company no longer needs;
  • an internal record of asset IDs and responsible people.

I use the same check in an online marketing audit. If the account works again, verify Pixel, Conversions API, and conversion events before launching campaigns. Restoring access is the first step. The second is ensuring the company knows what it owns and what its advertising actually does.
