Marketing term in context

Cross-promotion

In brief: Cross-promotion is mutual promotion of two offers, brands, or partners to their audiences. The agreement needs audience overlap, clear value, and rules for handling contacts.

How I use Cross-promotion in practice

I test cross-promotion on real content and devices, not only in a design. I care about first impression, readability, information order, error states, and the ability to go back. Watching a few people often reveals a more specific problem than a long team debate.

What to watch out for

A nice output is not automatically usable. Cross-promotion can meet an aesthetic goal while hiding important information, slowing the page, or making controls difficult. Also test beyond a large monitor and ideal content.

Questions for decisions

  • What task should the person complete on the page?
  • Where might they hesitate, make an error, or lose context?
  • Does it work on mobile, with a keyboard, and on a slow network?
  • What signal will show that the change really helped?
