In brief: Keywords are expressions that describe topics and people’s searched-for needs. In SEO and advertising they help map intent, content and targeting; they are not instructions to repeat a phrase mechanically.
How I use Keywords in practice
With Keywords I first separate reach from real value. I define the audience, situation, offer and next step after a click or impression. I launch a campaign or content with one main hypothesis and measurement that goes beyond a visit. I increase the budget only when I understand lead quality and the connection to sales.
What to watch out for
The most common mistake is putting Keywords behind an unclear offer and expecting the channel to solve the product. The second is attributing the entire result to the last contact. A person may have assembled the decision from several visits, recommendations and sales work.
Questions for a decision
- Who do we want to reach, and whom should we exclude?
- Which hypothesis about the offer or message are we testing?
- What happens after the first response, and who owns that step?
- Are we measuring customer quality or merely channel activity?
